About

Elad Natan

CPA · Systems Architect · Finance × Engineering

I work on both sides of the same problem — auditing the financial systems of global, regulated companies, and building the software that makes those systems controllable.

Background

Finance and engineering, in one person.

This field usually divides in two: accountants who learned to code, and engineers who learned finance. My background covers both — over 20 years in technology, with formal training and hands-on work in electronics and control systems, alongside a decade as a CPA in audit and financial risk. That combination is the point: domain understanding from the inside, implemented by the same person who builds the system.

How I approach a system

Autonomous within limits, or fully controllable at low cognitive load.

For the last three years my work has followed one principle: a system should either run itself safely within clearly defined limits, or remain fully controllable and inspectable with the lowest reasonable cognitive load on the person accountable for it. The principle holds whether the system is a SOX control workflow, an ESG disclosure pipeline, or a sensor-driven controller.

Experience

Risk and controls for global, regulated organizations.

KPMG

Big 4

IT Systems Auditor · IT Risk Management

Audited information systems and managed IT risk for multinational groups, including SEC-registered companies. Audit work at this level is itself subject to PCAOB inspection — the body that reviews the auditors of US-listed companies — under continuous regulatory change.

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services

Head office (HQ)

IT Financial Systems Risk Manager

Managed risk across financial information systems at the group head office. Implemented systems and controls, and integrated automation that reduced the resources invested per process by an average of over 60%, while moving assurance from sample-based testing to continuous auditing across the full population.

IDF

Military

Command & Control Systems Technician · Aviation

Hands-on responsibility for command-and-control systems at aviation level — early, direct work with systems where reliability is not optional.

I have been through PCAOB-driven reviews from both sides — as the auditor at KPMG, and as the SEC-registered company at ZIM.

Engineering roots

A maker long before it was a profession.

The same instinct runs under the professional work: build precise, controllable systems by hand, often before the market offers them — across photography and precision cooking.

  1. Childhood

Took apart toys to reuse the motor, receiver, and servos, and rebuilt them into Lego constructions with the electronics integrated. Where the building started.

  2. Studies

Completed an extended track in electronics, electrical engineering, computers, and control.

  3. 2004–2016

Built professional field-photography gear ahead of the market: a motorized, controlled video slider for field conditions, and a rechargeable ring light with control over light intensity and colour temperature — solutions still uncommon for photographers around 2010.

  4. Before 2015

Pursuing precise cooking, built a home sous-vide device with a PD controller holding temperature to within 0.5°C, plus water circulation for uniformity — while sous-vide was still confined to high-end restaurants and food production, before affordable home solutions existed.

  5. 2015

Connected the sous-vide system to a Raspberry Pi 2, adding touchscreen control and a live display.

What I build today

Approach and capabilities.

I combine domain depth with hands-on system design — from control-state modelling and evidence traceability to embedded sensing and control loops. I build the full stack of a system: the model, the workflow, the interface, and the evidence that it works. Over the years that has meant dozens of systems and solutions across finance, controls, and physical processes.
